The Internship programme is 8 weeks long and starts on 23rd June 2025. It is designed for students currently studying and undertaking a relevant University degree who will be returning to university after the internship. Candidates must be available for the duration of the 8 week programme. We are advertising a number of internships across different departments. The intern will primarily focus on providing proactive support to Directors and Senior Bankers in the Commercial Banking team. They will support the team with client acquisition and retention via client contact, but will primarily provide support in the preparation of lending proposals and support the growth aspirations of the commercial banking division via Know Your Customer (KYC).

To place the interests of customers at the centre of all activities, act in a way that is consistent with achieving good outcomes for consumers and to comply with the FCA and PRA's Conduct Rules.

Job Purpose

The intern will primarily focus on providing proactive support to Directors and Bankers in the Commercial Banking team. They will support the Commercial Banking division’s growth aspirations by providing support with client acquisition and the preparation of lending proposals, alongside assisting with the retention and ongoing monitoring of existing clients.

Client service and Sales support

  • Provide support to the Banker and team as a point of contact and accountability for clients in respect to their day-to-day banking
  • Support the team in developing, growing, and retaining the portfolio of commercial clients, ensuring a quality of service is provided at all times
  • Develop an understanding of the products and services the Bank offers to commercial clients.
  • Attend client and professional meetings to establish strong working relationships and develop your network
  • Develop a knowledge of structuring and completing credit applications in line with Bank policy
  • Develop an understanding of facility letters, and completion of lending transactions on the Bank’s loan administration and banking system
  • Support the collation of information and documentation in relation to loan drawdowns and credit approvals
  • Provide support and awareness in the monitoring and preparation of annual client reviews, whilst maintaining client files in the process
  • Manage account maintenance procedures, including account opening and account closures

General Administration

  • Conducting client communications
  • Preparing account opening forms
  • Responsible for keeping client records updated
  • Instigating and maintaining client files
Compliance
  • Complete compliance regulatory training (as required), adhering to both legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensuring money laundering/Know Your Customer procedures are implemented correctly and accurately

Risk

  • Responsible for managing risks inherent to the role by diligently observing internal policies and procedures.

Key Interfaces

  • Support other Commercial Banking Executives
  • Maintain excellent relationships with the wider Bank
 
 
Person Specification

Knowledge / Experience

  • Ability to provide a high level of client service and keeping the client at the heart of everything we do at all times
  • Working towards acquiring knowledge of regulatory requirements covering money laundering and criminal activity
  • Ability to develop a network both internally and externally to mutually benefit the team and the Bank
  • Ability to work under pressure, deal with a heavy workload and meet stretching deadlines

Skills / Qualifications
