Job Description

To lead a busy Credit department whose involvement with the Bank’s Credit process is comprehensive – from initiation through to documentation, monitoring and control through to recover.

  • Responsible for the teams preparation, review and control of lending documentation.
  • Deliver a first class service to the front office, by providing effective team leadership, whilst ensuring that the lending complies with the Bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Execute management duties with minimal supervision and provide a level of mentoring to junior colleagues.
  • Provide recognised cover in the absence of the Head of Credit Operations.
To place the interests of customers at the centre of all activities, act in a way that is consistent with achieving good outcomes for consumers and to comply with the FCA and PRA's Conduct Rules.
 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the Credit Operations team in all aspects of day-to-day processes
  • Develop staff to help them learn and embed new skills
  • People management, motivation, performance management & development, including managing through others, in line with Bank policies and standards.
  • Support the strategic direction achieving cost efficiency, productivity and risk avoidance/compliance on an ongoing basis
  • Evaluate the overall performance of Credit Operations
  • Ensure the team delivers timely and effective preparation of Facility Letters.
  • Drawdowns for all lending facilities ensuring that each transaction is properly documented in order to protect the Bank
  • Providing oversight and sign off on behalf of the team in accordance with the Bank’s agreed procedures
  • Champion the risk culture in the team, ensure procedures are fit for purpose, documented understood and used, controls are suitable and effective, testing and sample checking is undertaken & remedial action taken
  •  Take ownership on behalf of the team for the the completion of required returns to the FCA
  • Be the primary point of contact for Credit queries and seek solutions to issues that may arise
  • Build and monitor good stakeholder relationships to ensure quality service is provided at all times
  • Oversee and monitor the collation of KPIs, analyse trends and proactively drive remedial or improvement actions
  • To perform other tasks as assigned by the Head of Credit Operations.

  • Responsible for managing risks inherent to the role by diligently observing internal policies and procedures.
Person Specification

Knowledge/Experience 

  • Excellent banking background with the emphasis on Credit
  • Detailed and demonstrable knowledge around all areas of Lending
  • Previous line management experience 
  • Significant experience with High Net Worth clients
  • Have a detailed knowledge of CCA and MCOB rules
  • Multi-tasking capability
  • Ability to work under pressure with a heavy workload
  • Ability to provide support and guidance to team members

 

Skills 

  • Excellent understanding of Banking Systems and be IT literate, and a high understanding of Microsoft office
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential for this role
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
