Job Purpose

The Risk & Assurance Officer will work closely with the Operational Risk and Assurance Managers to support the delivery of the Risk Assurance Programme. The Officer will provide support and guidance on a wide variety of Risk topics across the whole business, including the Bank’s Subsidiaries. This role will coordinate the risk event monitoring and reporting process, work on assurance reviews, and maintain the Bank’s Policy hub.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Operational Risk & Assurance Managers, plan and implement the risk monitoring plan covering both the risk register (RCSA) assurance activities and the key control testing programme.
  • Under the guidance of the Operational Risk & Assurance Managers, conduct thorough assessments of the risk registers and identify areas for improvement, supporting the business to understand and implement the Bank’s risk management framework.
  • Support the testing of key controls and identify areas for improvement, contributing to the development of effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the business to support the embedding of our risk management framework and system. Provide insightful challenge and support to the business units based on the reviews undertaken.
  • Support the Head of Risk Assurance in the production of committee reporting covering the activities undertaken by the Team.
  • Manage the Risk Event process, working with stakeholders to ensure risks events are accurately documented, triaged, reviewing the root cause analysis and ensuring that all steps of the process are completed in a timely manner.
  • Follow-up and approval of management actions submitted by the business units in connection with monitoring undertaken.
  • Manage the Policy Management Hub (The Hive). Working with the Chief Compliance Officer and policy owners to ensure all policies are reviewed and updated before submission to Policy Committee. Ensuring that all actions are completed to launch the approved policies.

Risk:

  • Responsible for managing risks inherent to the role by diligently observing internal policies and procedures.

Key Interfaces:

  • Team members and managers within the Chief Risk Office (Risk, Compliance, Credit, Financial crime).
  • Risk & Control Owners and assessors across the business: Head Office, Front Office, Functions, COO and AL Subsidiaries, Internal Audit.

Person Specification

Knowledge/Experience/Skills:

  • Ability to conduct independent monitoring on the effectiveness of processes/controls.
  • Experience of risk management within a Financial Services 1LOD or 2LOD role.
  • Have an analytical mind and an excellent eye for detail with a methodical approach.
  • Good IT skills, especially Microsoft Word and Excel (intermediate).
  • Enthusiastic team player and able to demonstrate a positive and flexible approach.
  • Self-motivated and driven to learn and develop yourself.
