Our two-year programme is designed to provide you with the skills and experience to help you progress your career and contribute to Arbuthnot Latham’s continuing success. It will be delivered in on-the-job learning which aligns to your level 6 Apprenticeship course, with overviews from other parts of the Bank, exposure to Senior Leaders and opportunities to work on projects. On successful completion of the programme, your training, experience and your Level 6 external qualification will equip you with excellent career prospects.
The programme is designed for students completing A level or equivalent education in 2025 or 2026 looking for their first professional role.
During the programme, you can expect to:

The Role
The Commercial Banking Executive (CBE) Apprentice will primarily focus on providing proactive support to a Commercial Banker in the Commercial Banking Team. They will support the team with client acquisition and retention through regular client contact.
To place the interests of customers at the centre of all activities, act in a way that is consistent with achieving good outcomes for consumers and to comply with the FCA and PRA's Conduct Rules.
With further experience in the role and with training, the Apprentice will be able to provide support in the preparation of lending proposals and account opening requirements to support the growth aspirations of the Commercial business.
Key Responsibilities
Client service and Sales support
- Main point of contact and accountability for clients in respect to their day to day banking
- Building and monitoring client relationships
- Supporting Commercial Bankers in developing, growing and retaining their portfolio of Commercial Clients, ensuring a quality of service is provided at all times whilst proactively managing a portfolio of clients and help Senior Commercial Bankers achieve their targets
- Undertake proactive client calls and ensure commercial bankers follow up on all client leads and facilitate client meetings
- Preparing full client briefs and research for commercial bankers
- Manage account maintenance procedures – including account opening and account closing
- Monitor the return of Facility letters, and completion of lending transactions in Ncino, the Bank’s loan administrationsystem
- Monitor, prepare and/or carry out annual credit reviews
- Monitor, prepare and/or complete annual client reviews – maintaining client files in the process
General Administration
- Preparing client communications
- Preparing account opening forms
- Responsible for keeping client records updated
- Instigating and maintaining client files
- Organising and coordinating diaries for the Bankers (including future planning of meetings, meeting preparation, planning for issues)
- Organise travel schedules, as required
Support the bank’s Change & innovation agenda
- Complete user acceptance testing of technology updates, new functionality & systems used in front office as required
- Input to change projects to give ideas, input and requirements as required
Compliance and Risk
- Complete compliance regulatory exams (as required), adhering to both legal and regulatory requirements
- Ensuring money laundering/Know Your Customer procedures are implemented correctly and accurately
- Responsible for managing risks inherent to the role by diligently observing internal policies and procedures
With further experience in the role and training, the Apprentice may have further responsibilities of:
- Develop sales pitches, analysing client book to identify target clients’ needs and attending client meetings to establish strong working relationships
- Be confident and competent at identifying new sales opportunities
- Initiate, discuss and complete Credit Applications on behalf of Senior Commercial Bankers. Opportunities to present to credit committee will be provided depending on ability
