Job Description

***This role is currently only open to employees of Arbuthnot Latham***

Arbuthnot Latham has been associated with banking since 1833. We combine private and commercial banking, wealth planning and investment management. We believe in traditional relationship and service-led banking powered by modern technology.

Job Purpose

The Head of Infrastructure and Cloud is accountable for the strategy, engineering, reliability, and operation of the enterprise infrastructure estate across cloud and on-premises environments. The role ensures the organisation delivers a secure, resilient, and high-performing platform capability that underpins critical banking services, supporting operational resilience and regulatory compliance.

The role leads the transition from traditional infrastructure management to a platform-centric, product-led operating model, integrating platform engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Network Operations (NOC) to enable scalable, automated, and resilient technology services.

To place the interests of customers at the centre of all activities, act in a way that is consistent with achieving good outcomes for consumers; and to comply with the FCA and PRA’s Conduct Rules.

Job Description

  • Define and execute the Infrastructure and Cloud strategy, ensuring alignment to enterprise objectives, regulatory requirements (FCA/PRA), and organisational risk appetite, with a strong focus on resilience and security.
  • Assess and continuously evolve the infrastructure estate across cloud and on‑premise environments, defining a clear transition roadmap towards platform-centric and cloud-native operating models.
  • Lead the establishment of a platform engineering capability, delivering an internal developer platform (IDP) that enables self-service, automation, and standardisation for engineering and product teams.
  • Own cloud and infrastructure architecture and governance, including workload placement, vendor strategy, technical debt reduction, and avoidance of vendor lock-in.
  • Embed DevOps operating principles across engineering teams, enabling a “You Build It, You Run It” (YBIYRI) model with shared accountability for service delivery and operational outcomes.
  • Establish and integrate Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, defining and managing service-level objectives (SLOs), error budgets, and proactive reliability engineering across critical services.
  • Ensure end-to-end service reliability and resilience, including capacity management, availability, performance, and disaster recovery, aligned to operational resilience requirements for banking services.
  • Lead Network Operations and Infrastructure Operations (NOC), ensuring 24/7 monitoring, incident response, and proactive service management with continuous improvement of MTTR and service stability.
  • Define, implement, and continuously mature infrastructure governance and compliance frameworks, ensuring alignment to ISO27001 (Annex A), NIST CSF, CIS benchmarks, and regulatory expectations, including secure configuration, logging, monitoring, and audit readiness.
  • Act as control owner for infrastructure and cloud services, ensuring effective design and operation of controls, evidence management, and timely remediation of audit findings.
  • Drive automation and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) adoption to improve consistency, scalability, and compliance, embedding guardrails and policy-as-code within platform services.
  • Establish integrated observability and monitoring capabilities, leveraging telemetry, logging, and AI-driven insights to proactively manage service health and predict risk.
  • Manage subsidiaries to ensure consistency and ongoing alignment with agreed infrastructure standards.
  • Manage strategic technology partners and cloud providers, ensuring cost optimisation, performance management, and alignment to enterprise architecture and risk requirements.
  • Lead organisational capability development across platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, and cloud operations, fostering a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
