Job Purpose

This is a junior role intended to build broad technology capability through practical exposure, supervised delivery, operational support, analysis, documentation and continuous improvement. The role supports architecture, software engineering, infrastructure and cloud operations, data engineering and reporting activities and cyber security. 

The role does not require deep specialism in any one technology area at entry; the emphasis is on curiosity, learning agility, analytical thinking and the ability to build capability over time.

Job Description 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide support to technology teams through analysis, documentation, coordination and delivery activities across architecture, software engineering, infrastructure and cloud operations, data engineering and reporting and cyber security. 
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of technology documentation, including architecture diagrams, process notes, runbooks, data definitions, reporting materials and operational support guidance. 
  • Contribute to software engineering activities such as requirements analysis, testing, release support, defect triage and continuous improvement under appropriate supervision. 
  • Support infrastructure and cloud operations activities, including monitoring, incident analysis, environment checks, operational reporting and basic service management tasks. 
  • Assist data engineering and reporting teams with data analysis, report production, data quality checks, dashboard maintenance and documentation of data flows. 
  • Work with colleagues to understand business and technology requirements, helping to translate them into clear actions, documentation and delivery outcomes. 
  • Participate in agile delivery ceremonies, planning sessions, retrospectives and team meetings, contributing ideas and tracking agreed actions. 
  • Support service management processes including incident, problem, change and release management, ensuring activities are recorded accurately and progressed in line with agreed procedures. 
  • Develop knowledge of technology governance, controls, risk management, cyber security, resilience, data protection and regulatory expectations relevant to a financial services environment. 
  • Demonstrate curiosity, professionalism and commitment to learning by maintaining a personal development plan, seeking feedback and building capability across multiple technology disciplines.

Person Specification

Knowledge / Experience/Skills: 

Candidates are not expected to meet every criterion listed below. We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate a broad range of relevant knowledge, experience and skills, including but not limited to: 

  • An interest in technology, digital delivery and financial services. 
  • Foundational awareness of technology concepts such as applications, infrastructure, cloud platforms, data, networks, cyber security and software development lifecycle principles. 
  • Interest in architecture and design, with the ability to understand how technology components support business processes and customer outcomes. 
  • Interest in software engineering practices including requirements, development, testing, deployment, version control and continuous improvement. 
  • Interest in infrastructure and cloud operations, including service monitoring, operational resilience, automation and secure technology operations. 
  • Interest in data engineering, reporting and analytics, including data quality, data flows, dashboards and management information. 
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues, ask questions and present findings clearly. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Organised and able to manage tasks, priorities and deadlines with support from more experienced colleagues. 
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive attitude, willingness to learn and ability to take feedback positively. 
  • Comfortable using Microsoft 365 tools; exposure to cloud platforms, coding, scripting, databases, reporting tools or service management platforms would be beneficial but is not essential. 
  • Financial services experience is not required, but an interest in working in a regulated environment is desirable. 

Communication Skills: 

  • Clear and confident communicator, able to build relationships, listen actively, ask appropriate questions and tailor communication for technical and non-technical audiences. 
 Qualifications:
  • A-level or equivalent qualification. A degree, apprenticeship, vocational qualification or relevant training in technology, computer science, data, engineering, information security, mathematics or a related subject would be beneficial but is not essential.
