Job Purpose

The Junior Project Manager supports the delivery of small, lower-risk projects and defined workstreams within larger programmes aimed at maintaining, enhancing and transforming AL Platforms. 

Working under the direction of a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager, the role supports the definition, planning, coordination, monitoring and delivery of business and technology change using the Bank’s Change Framework and proportionate PRINCE2, Waterfall, Agile and hybrid delivery practices. 

The role requires the development of business knowledge and an understanding of the AL Platform operating model and strategy across people, operational processes and technology. 

The Junior Project Manager works collaboratively with Change Management specialists, wider business areas, IT Platform teams and third-party suppliers to support the delivery of agreed business outcomes. 

To place the interests of customers at the centre of all activities, act in a way that is consistent with achieving good outcomes for consumers and comply with the FCA and PRA Conduct Rules. 

Job Description 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Support the end-to-end delivery of small, lower-risk projects or defined workstreams from initiation through to implementation and handover to live service. 
  • Ensure assigned project activities are completed in accordance with the Bank’s Change Framework, processes, governance standards, risk controls and delivery metrics. 
  • Support the preparation of project artefacts, including business cases, delivery plans and governance materials. 
  • Gather and maintain information relating to project costs, benefits, outcomes, assumptions and dependencies. 
  • Help ensure projects remain aligned with their agreed business case, strategic objectives and intended customer and business outcomes. 
  • Coordinate project resources and follow up actions, escalating delivery constraints or competing priorities to the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager. 
  • Maintain accurate project plans based on agreed estimates, milestones, dependencies and delivery dates. 
  • Monitor progress against agreed plans and highlight variances, delays or emerging concerns. 
  • Maintain project RAID logs, action logs, decision logs, change logs and lessons learned. 
  • Assist with supplier and third-party delivery activities, including meeting coordination, deliverable tracking and maintenance of relevant commercial records. 
  • Apply agreed change-control processes to record and assess proposed changes to scope, schedule, cost, quality or benefits. 
  • Prepare concise, accurate and evidence-based project status reports. 
  • Organise and support project governance forums, including preparing papers, coordinating attendees, recording decisions and following up agreed actions. 
  • Collaborate with the PMO to ensure project information and reporting meet Change Management Standards and agreed reporting cycles. 
  • Support stakeholder analysis, communication and engagement activities, recognising the impact of change on customers and colleagues. 
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, Test Managers, Release Management, technical teams and business SMEs to coordinate requirements, testing, implementation readiness and transition to live service. 
  • Work with Architecture, Information Security, Information Privacy and other control functions to ensure required reviews, approvals and evidence are completed. 
  • Support release and environment planning to ensure project activities are aligned with the wider change portfolio. 
  • Capture project lessons and share them with the PMO and Change Management Community of Practice. 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of internal delivery standards, project management methods, tools and relevant industry practices. 
  • Take ownership of an agreed professional development plan and seek feedback to support continued development. 

Risk: 

  • Manage the risks inherent in assigned project activities by following internal policies, procedures and project controls.  
  • Maintain complete and accurate risk, issue, assumption and dependency information.  
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of effective mitigation and control actions.  
  • Ensure project delivery supports defined RCSA performance metrics.  
  • Escalate identified risks, issues, control gaps and delivery exceptions promptly through the appropriate governance route

Person Specification

Knowledge/Experience: 

  • Experience of supporting projects, change initiatives or structured delivery activity through employment, an apprenticeship, graduate programme, internship or equivalent practical experience.  
  • Basic understanding of project lifecycles, governance, planning, risk management, quality management, change control and benefits.  
  • Awareness of the Financial Services industry and an interest in Wealth Management, Private Banking and Commercial Banking.  
  • Awareness of the importance of customer outcomes and the potential impact of change on customers and colleagues.  
  • Some understanding of the people aspects of change and the importance of successfully implementing and embedding new ways of working.  
  • Experience of coordinating meetings, actions, plans, reports or delivery records in a structured environment.  
  • Ability to work effectively under guidance and take increasing ownership as knowledge and capability develop.  
  • Good organisational, analytical and problem-solving ability.  
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.  
  • Ability to manage several tasks, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.  
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.

Skills 

  • Foundational knowledge of project delivery approaches across Waterfall, Agile and hybrid environments, with the ability to apply them under guidance.  
  • Foundational knowledge of PRINCE2 principles, practices and processes, including continued business justification, defined roles and responsibilities, management by stages and exception, product focus, learning from experience and tailoring.  
  • Awareness of Agile values and working knowledge of common Agile practices, including iterative planning, prioritised backlogs, team collaboration, regular review and adaptation, and incremental delivery.  
  • Ability to create and maintain straightforward project plans, RAID logs, action and decision logs, status reports and governance materials.  
  • Ability to review delivery information, identify variances and escalate risks, issues or exceptions with clear supporting evidence.  
  • Basic understanding of project cost tracking, forecasting and financial control.  
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload, meet deadlines and follow through on agreed actions.  
  • Ability to organise and support project meetings, record clear decisions and actions, contribute to facilitation and prepare concise presentations.  
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor information to the audience.  
  • Good relationship-building, stakeholder collaboration and teamwork skills.  
  • Ability to listen, ask constructive questions, accept feedback and seek guidance where appropriate.  
  • Good attention to detail, analytical thinking and structured problem-solving skills.  
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications.  
  • Awareness of Microsoft Project, Visio, Azure DevOps or comparable project delivery tools is desirable.  
  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional development and taking increasing ownership as capability develops. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • PRINCE2 Foundation, APM Project Fundamentals Qualification, AgilePM Foundation, Scrum fundamentals or equivalent knowledge is desirable.  
  • Commitment to working towards an appropriate project management qualification within an agreed timeframe.  
  • A relevant degree, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience is desirable but not essential.
