Job Purpose

The Junior Business Analyst (JBA) is an entry-level development role that supports Business Analysts in defining and enabling business and technology change across Change Management. 

Working under the direction and supervision of a Business Analyst or Lead Business Analyst, the JBA will build core business analysis capability by assisting with research, data collection, process analysis, requirements documentation, testing and business adoption activities. 

The JBA will develop an understanding of the Bank's operating models (People, Process and Technology) and contribute to agreed initiatives. The JBA will be a problem solver who assists Business Analysts in enabling business and technology change within the Investment, Wealth Management & Finance systems Platform. 

To place the interests of customers at the centre of all activities, act in a way that is consistent with achieving good outcomes for consumers and to comply with the FCA and PRA's Conduct Rules.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support colleagues across business and operations to understand a defined business problem or change, escalating questions and ambiguities to the Business Analyst. 
  • Assist with research, information gathering and the preparation of capability, options and impact assessments, using agreed templates and documenting evidence, benefits, limitations, dependencies and risks.
  •  Support the planning and facilitation of workshops and interviews by preparing materials, capturing outputs, confirming actions and maintaining accurate records. 
  • Draft and maintain business analysis artifacts, including business requirements, functional and non-functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, traceability records and decision logs, for review and approval by the Business Analyst. 
  • Document existing business and operational processes and client journeys using agreed standards; assist the Business Analyst to identify gaps, pain points, controls and improvement opportunities and to describe a future state. 
  • Attend meetings with business stakeholders, technology teams and external partners; record key information, decisions, assumptions, risks and actions and ensure these are followed through. 
  • Review change requests, tickets and backlog items within a defined scope, gathering the information needed for the Business Analyst to assess impact and priority. 
  • Undertake defined data collection, validation and basic analysis tasks; present findings clearly and highlight data quality issues or uncertainties. 
  • Support analytical tasks required for business cases and investment decisions, including gathering evidence, documenting assumptions and maintaining supporting information. 
  • Support Project Managers, Test Managers and Business Analysts across testing phases, including requirements traceability, test script preparation, test execution, defect triage, issue resolution and reporting. 
  • Support business adoption activities, including stakeholder impact assessment, training needs analysis, communication material and training material production and delivery. 
  • Maintain accurate records of outstanding requirements, defects, issues and actions at project handover to BAU and support their transfer to the appropriate backlog or owner. 
  • Use agreed Change Management tools, templates, controls and governance processes. 
  • Participate in the Business Analysis and Change Management community of practice, seek feedback and apply learning to improve the quality and consistency of own work. 
  • Keep own knowledge current and work towards recognised business analysis capability and qualifications.

  • Manage risks inherent to the role by observing internal policies, procedures, controls and escalation routes, and promptly raising issues outside own authority or experience.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Awareness of the Financial Services industry; knowledge of Wealth Management, Private Banking or Commercial Banking is desirable. 
  • Foundational understanding of business analysis tools, techniques and methodologies. This may include process mapping, requirements gathering and documentation, user stories, acceptance criteria, gap analysis and basic data analysis. 
  • Awareness of change delivery frameworks and methodologies, including Waterfall, Agile and hybrid approaches. 
  • Awareness of JIRA, Azure DevOps, process mapping tools and business intelligence tools is desirable; training will be provided where required. 
  • Experience gained through study, an apprenticeship, internship, placement, project work or an entry-level role involving analysis, problem solving, process improvement, technology or change is desirable.

  • Professional judgement to recognise the limits of own experience and refer decisions, approvals and complex matters to the Business Analyst or Lead Business Analyst. 

Qualifications 

  • Working towards, or willing to work towards, a recognised foundation-level Business Analysis qualification or apprenticeship. 
  • Relevant further education, degree or equivalent practical experience is desirable but not essential.
