Job Description

Job Purpose

To be part of a busy Credit Risk Team whose involvement with the Bank’s Credit process is extensive and includes origination, monitoring, control and recovery.

To act as a second line of defence role in the assessment and underwriting of a broad range or private and commercial credit facilities, reporting to the Head of Credit.

As part of this role, the individual may be required to monitor and provide oversight of certain elements of stewardship and quality control of the lending book.

In summary, this role will deliver a first-class service to the front office whilst supporting the maintenance and control of the quality of the loan book.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwriting and recommending new / renewals of credit facilities within business agreed appetite / policy and delegated authority framework appropriate to the role.

  • Analysing and recommending requests for extensions to facilities or deferments of annual reviews whilst being vigilant for any early warning triggers.

  • Evaluating the daily Clearing Verification Report and deciding whether any items should be returned.

  • Assessing the weekly Broken Limits report to ensure excesses are covered and identify any early warning triggers of potential problem accounts.

  • Daily monitoring of the Overdue Schedules Report and seeking an update from Bankers with regards to any credit facilities that are in arrears. Monitoring to ensure the frontline follow the correct arrears process, i.e. issuing arrears letters etc.

  • Measuring the Loans vs. ALIM Daily Margin Call Breach Report to ensure all Lombard facilities are within their control covenants and escalating as appropriate

  • Recommending / approving withdrawals from ALIM portfolios that act as collateral, ensuring the loans remain within their sanctioned covenants.

  • Approving open requests for credit.

  • Assessment of notifications from Credit Safe.

  • Covering the duties of the Credit Secretariat during periods of absence or busy reporting periods.

  • To act as minute taker for AL Credit Committee as required

Multiple stakeholders in all departments across Arbuthnot Latham including Business, Senior Management and Group Directorate.

Person Specification

Knowledge/Experience

  • Knowledge of credit-related processes, from initiation to repayment.

  • Previous experience of Credit Administration / Loans Administration desirable.

  • Previous experience of personal lending ideally gained with High Net Worth clients.

  • Strong computer skills.

  • Excellent written & spoken communication skills. Ability and confidence to deal effectively and professionally with people across the business.

  • Excellent time management, organisational & administrative skills, ability to work under pressure, responsible, proactive, dedicated and consistently able to achieve results.  Remains motivated and confidential at all times.  Ability to work under pressure and using own initiative, with minimal supervision.

  • High standard of verbal and numerical reasoning.

  • Attention to detail, quality and high standards.

  • “Complete Finisher” by nature with confidence to provide robust follow up.

  • Ability to work well in a Team environment.

  • Sense of urgency when required.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously whilst remaining flexible, proactive and efficient.

Qualifications

  • Banking qualifications would be beneficial but not essential. Willingness to study for professional qualifications.
