Job Description

To assist the Investment Committee in outperforming our benchmarks.

Contribute to the house investment strategy, building portfolios within pre-agreed risk frameworks originating ideas, conducting investment research and due diligence and communicating our results.

Key Responsibilities
Idea generation:
 
  • Analyse investment trends, economic data points, review investment commentary to generate views on asset classes, sectors and securities with a view to express recommendations that will assist in tactical asset allocation decisions.
  • Quantitatively and qualitatives review long-only and alternative funds, ETFs and single name stocks for inclusion within investment portfolios. Originate investment ideas through primary research and develop into investable opportunities.
Due Diligence
 
  • Completion of internal fund due diligence questionnaires and ongoing oversight of funds to confirm their continued inclusion in portfolios
IC Member:
 
  • Lead investment research for an asset class and support colleagues with research projects within other asset classes.
  • Active role in debating investment positioning / changes and participating in decisions that form the house view and lead to the selection of investments.
  • Work with our risk manager to analyse our past decisions.
  • Support the process of constantly improving/optimising the IC process.
  • Coaching junior members of the investment team.
  • Participation in adhoc projects as determined by Head of Investment Management or Head of Investment Research.

Written commentary:

  • Contribute to research papers and articles for both internal and external use.
  • Present / promote / communicate Arbuthnot Latham’s house view and range of services internally in briefings or to clients in support of Private/Commercial Bankers, Wealth Planners or Investment Managers.

Risk

  • Responsible for managing risks inherent to the role by diligently observing internal policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Knowledge / Experience

  • Significant experience as an investment analyst/risk taker with experience of idea generation, quantitative filtering, thorough research and analysis, due diligence and investment selection.
  • Experience of portfolio construction across a wide asset range (i.e. asset allocation across fixed income, equities, alternatives and commodities).
  • Sound knowledge of modern portfolio theory and the impact of various risks in portfolio construction and monitoring.
  • Some experience / knowledge of HNW private client portfolio management is a plus but not a requirement.
  • Capable to stand up and present to a wide range of audiences our strategy.
  • A diplomatic team player able to support the expansion of a highly focused investment team within a Listed Bank.
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualification of IMC
